Pre-season round-up: Gearing up for long(er) season ahead

Less than two weeks to go for the 2017-18 season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL), and the teams have been working hard and toning themselves for a long and exciting road ahead. It’s also a good time to take stock of how they’ve been preparing for the same, so here’s a quick round-up of the action so far…

Defending champions ATK wrapped up their pre-season tour of Dubai on a high as they put the young guns of Turkmenistan to the sword.

Last season’s finalist Kerala Blasters FC recently wrapped up their tour of Spain. Assistant coach Wim Suuriber’s summary of the training regime induced by head coach Rene Meulensteen explains what went right and what did not during their stay.

Also in Spain were Mumbai City FC. The team, co-owned by Ranbir Kapoor, also concluded their training stint with a win and boasted an impressive record in the country.

The Lions are back in their den for the final few friendlies, and they preyed on Real Kashmir FC in their latest fixture.

While in Turkey, NorthEast United FC were riding high after coming up with a hard-fought success over Iraq’s Naft Al-Janoob SC.

FC Pune City might be cooling their legs for a bit before setting out for the battle that is the ISL, but their colts are notching up victories of their own too.

2015 ISL champions Chennaiyin FC seem to be having a ball in Thailand as they netted thrice against one of the local teams to get a comfortable win ahead of a busy season.

FC Goa took part in an ISL vs Hero I-League encounter at home. Unfortunately for them though, they were narrowly edged by one of Kolkata’s footballing powerhouses.

Halloween saw the clash of ISL debutants Bengaluru FC against an I-League debutant. The Blues prevailed getting the better of their opponents from Kerala.

And there was more success in Thailand as the other ISL first-timers Jamshedpur FC emerged victorious over Police Tero FC in their pre-season routine.

The upcoming season of Hero ISL kicks off on November 17th in Kochi with hosts Kerala Blasters FC taking on defending champions ATK. For more, do check our website and social platforms.
